Channel 4 Plus - Adverts

I was visiting my mum in Scotland recently and found myself bored after she went to bed. I decided to watch Taskmaster on the Channel 4 app. I love Taskmaster. I don’t often get the chance to sit down and binge it and so when I do, I don’t want my experience being interrupted by adverts.

Channel 4 has the perfect solution to this, or so I thought. You see, Channel 4 offers a subscription service. They say you can “Stream 1500 shows ad free*”, they follow that with “Save time and watch more!” Note the asterisk though. The note associated with it states that “For contractual reasons, some programmes contain ads or promotional trails for other programmes.”

That last part is the kicker and for me, the deal-breaker. If I am paying for a service, I do not want to be advertised to. To be more accurate, I want NOT to be advertised to. I am paying for the service, not the adverts. You are taking my money and you are taking someone else’s money for the same thing. Nope!

You see, I am autistic. I probably also have ADHD but that has not been diagnosed yet. When I am watching something and an advert break happens, I lose track of what I was watching. I need to not have my attention diverted away from the content I am consuming.

So, sorry Channel 4, you don’t get my money. You can either have me as a subscriber or you can show adverts but not both.
